Market Boom for New Building Energy Management Systems

Residential and commercial buildings account for 39% of total US energy consumption and 38% of CO2 emissions. It makes sense that companies would buy in to new energy management systems to reduce use and emissions, reports Energy Management Today. Building energy management systems (BEMS) integrate software, hardware, ICT technologies and services to help monitor, control, and automate building functions, resulting in effective energy efficiency management. A new report from Global Market Insights projects that the global building energy management systems market will grow to more than $6 billion in the next six years. Notable BEMS players include Honeywell, Ingersoll-Rand, IBM, Johnson Controls, Jones Lang LaSalle, Schneider Electric, Siemens, and Toshiba. Once again, business finds opportunity in innovation.

In difficult times, as in good times, I think it's important to focus on the basics. Perhaps more so.

Firstly, be agreed on what you are trying to achieve. Knowing this can get you through the toughest times.


As dismal as we may find the impending doom of global climate change, biodiversity loss, protracted economic recession, and ever increasing global inequality, we all generally believe that we can reach some kind of global agreement to ensure that our long-term future remains intact.


I recently received another guidebook for social entrepreneurs, and like those mentioned in my previous post, it's quite useful. Mission, Inc.: The Practitioner's Guide to Social Enterprise is, as the title suggests, immensely practical, but it is not a dry read.


Managing the influx of applicants in a job search can be a daunting task, particularly in this economy, when there are increased numbers of job seekers. In addition to bolstering the reputation of your company, forthright and proactive communication with candidates and focused management of the process can enable you to make connections with qualified applicants, while reducing the reactive questions that you will undoubtedly get from the most eager ones. As you no doubt know, hiring the wrong person can be costly in more ways than one.
