Booz Allen Senior Vice President Natalie Givans will be awarded the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association’s (AFCEA) Women’s Appreciation Award, given to honor “AFCEA members (male or female) who have gone above and beyond to further the careers of women.” The award ceremony will be held at the AFCEA West Conference on February 18, 2016, at the San Diego Conference Center in San Diego, CA.

“I am humbled to receive this award from AFCEA and proud of AFCEA for recognizing all its men and women who are working to advance the careers of women who make a difference in support of our Armed Forces,” Givans said.

Givans, a leader in Booz Allen’s defense business with a focus on military health technology, has been involved with AFCEA since 1986. She has served in a number of leadership positions within the Northern Virginia Chapter of the organization. She was Vice Chair of the AFCEA International Board of Directors from 2009-2011 and served as its Chair from 2011-2013.  She continues to serve on the organization’s Executive Committee, Governance Committee, and Board of Directors and is involved with the AFCEA Education Foundation.

“When I was a very junior engineer and consultant at Booz Allen I was lucky to have strong role models at the firm who stressed the importance of participating in AFCEA International,” Givans said. “I learned new skills through the Professional Development Center and had opportunities to network with clients and other companies within the framework of an ethical, values-based organization.  I have been passionate throughout my career about the importance of encouraging women and minorities to choose STEM fields for education and, ultimately, for their careers.  We have a long way to go, but through our partnership with like-minded organizations such as AFCEA, we are making a difference.”

During AFCEA West, Booz Allen Hamilton and 1105 Media will also host “Network-Centric Warfare: Next Steps Toward Achieving The Vision” on February 16. This event will bring together Department of Defense (DOD) leaders and experts to discuss the current vision of network-centric warfare and steps the Department and Navy/Marine Corps can take to achieve it. Speakers at the event will include a keynote from Rear Admiral David H. Lewis, Commander, Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command, U.S. Navy, and presentations from Booz Allen Executive Vice Presidents Steve Soules and Greg Wenzel.
