Cerro Verde, a Freeport-McMoRan Company, Wins Award for Cultural Contributions to Peru

Cerro Verde recently received the Luis Hochschild Plaut award at the 53rd Annual Conference of Executives for the promotion of Peruvian art and culture.

The award recognized the Company's significant and varied efforts in helping the city of Arequipa preserve its cultural heritage.

Cerro Verde's commitment to Arequipa's cultural heritage dates back years. Major projects include the following: 

  • Reconstruction and improvement of the Hospital de Sacerdotes and Capilla de San Pedro
  • Restoration of the mural in Coro Bajo Sur and portraits in the Santa Catalina Monastery
  • Reconstruction of the Belén Hermitage in the Santa Theresa Monastery
  • Maintenance performed in the Arequipa Cathedral and five churches in the city

The Luis Hochschild Plaut Award has been given since 1999 to companies that promote education and culture in Peru. Conference of Executives or CADE is the annual conference for Peruvian executives and business people.
