Climate Week, an annual event hosted by the Climate Group, is the biggest climate summit taking place this year, and International Paper will be hosting its first #ClimateWeekNYC event during the summit.

As the world’s focus shifts to how we rebuild after COVID-19, Climate Week NYC 2020 will explore what lessons we can learn in the pursuit of a net-zero future though just transition. The summit’s goal is to put people at the heart of climate action to build a better future by bringing together business and government leaders to showcase amazing climate actions and find ways to do more.

International Paper’s event, “Forests as a Natural Climate Solution,” will be held virtually September 24, 2020 at 12:30 p.m. EDT. International Paper Chief Sustainability Officer, Sophie Beckham, will be chatting with The Nature Conservancy’s lead scientist, Peter Ellis, about how forests are a critical, yet often overlooked, solution in the fight against climate change. They will discuss how improvements to land stewardship could cost-effectively avoid 11 gigatons of carbon-dioxide emissions per year and will provide specific examples of collaborations in between governments, NGOs, and the private sector in Gabon, Indonesia, Mexico, and the Central Appalachians of the United States.
