CNH Industrial is working to improve essential water supplies in India through the provision of supply lakes, as well as the implementation of solar panels.

Water is the most fundamental element for life, and it is one of the world’s most precious resources. For many people, the simple act of turning on a tap in the home or an irrigation system in a field is just that, a simple act. However in water stressed areas around the globe, this ‘simple act’ can turn into a complex operation, balancing limited availability with numerous pressing needs, both domestic, agricultural and industrial.

And this was the very focus of CNH Industrial’s ambitious Jal Sanchay, which means Water Supply in Hindi, CSR project. Started in 2019 its aim is to revamp, rejuvenate and manage four water supply lakes in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, the state due east of the nation’s capital New Delhi, and home to the one of the Company’s New Holland Agriculture plants. The water supply lakes are located in the local communities of Devla, Kheda Choganpur, Sorkha, and Surajpur in the Gautam Buddha Nagar District, and represent sustained development with the conservation and rejuvenation work progressing well.

Landscaping work has been carried out around the edges of the lakes to enhance the biodiversity of the surrounding area and to improve air quality. CNH Industrial has also installed solar-powered lamps around the ponds, which have not only increased visibility during the evening, but have allowed the local community to further harness this renewable source of energy for other needs.

CNH Industrial has committed to maintaining and up-keeping these water supply lakes through March 2022.

“Over a year ago, most of these water bodies were in a neglected state with rapid depletion in groundwater level. We aimed to transform these ponds as a major source of water storage with the proper provision of provisioning the facilities through monsoon rains and plantation around the perimeters to prevent future siltation,” said Raunak Varma, Country Manager, India & SAARC,

CNH Industrial India. “With steadfast hard work put in by our team, we are delighted to see this important CSR project is on track and meeting the project milestones. As the project progresses, I am sure we will see even greater accomplishments.” CNH Industrial employees volunteered to work on this initiative by creating awareness about the project through community interaction. Awareness Creation Sessions were organized at local level to teach residents about their active role and responsibility in preserving water and maintaining water bodies. The Jal Sanchay program has already impacted over 2,300 families and a collective population of over 11,000. These numbers are projected to increase as the project progresses further.
