#GOINGTOBAT COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT: JON JAY THROWS STRIKES FOR BOYS AND GIRLS CLUBS

MIAMI, Fla. – Jon Jay, known mostly for his hitting and outfield defense, threw strikes at his 5th Annual Jon Jay FMSbonds Celebrity Bowling Challenge.

Fellow players Yonder Alonso, David Freese, Manny Machado, Danny Valencia and Delmon Young  also attended the Celebrity Bowling Challenge on Jan. 16 at Splitsville Lanes in Jay’s hometown of Miami.

All proceeds benefitted the Boys and Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade, where Jay was a member growing up. The approximately $50,000 will be used for the organization’s Project Learn After-School Program, which serves at-risk children in grades K-8 by encouraging them to achieve academic success and become lifelong learners.

“We’re thrilled with the amazing response to this event,” Jay told the Miami Herald. “I’m looking forward to continuing to raise more funds for Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade in coming years.”

The evening began with a red carpet arrival, cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. Attendees were then matched with athletes to bowl.

Jay, who now plays for the Padres, plans to continue #GoingToBat for his childhood team -- the Boys and Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade.
