Through a special partnership, Safeway has joined forces with Arizona’s largest animal organization, the Arizona Humane Society (AHS), and 3TV to raise $30,000 to help save animals’ lives.

Safeway has been such an incredible supporter of the Arizona Humane Society through our Summer to Save Lives campaign and Pet Telethon,” said Dr. Steven Hansen, AHS President & CEO (pictured above).

“In Arizona, as homeless, injured and abused pets struggle to survive in the blistering summer heat, our intake of animals increases and the public’s calls reporting abuse and neglect are more critical,” Dr. Hansen said. “We are committed to saving more lives than ever before through our trauma center, Emergency Animal Medical Technician program and Waggin’ Wheels mobile adoption unit. We’re deeply touched that Safeway customers believe in this mission with such passion and generosity.”

In addition to helping homeless pets, the money raised through the partnership also goes to AHS’ pet-therapy program, which allows children and adults with disabilities to work with pets at the AHS. AHS also works to place specially trained homeless dogs with individuals with disabilities.

“It’s really about people as much as it is about pets,” Dr. Hansen said. “Donations raised at Safeway also reunite lost pets with owners, connect people with special needs to animals through tours, and provide temporary foster care for the pets of those deployed for military service.  We are so grateful to Safeway for helping us connect more people and pets, and save the lives of more dogs and cats every day.”
