For the 11th year, Gildan supports the Fondation de l’athlète d’excellence du Québec (FAEQ) with the contribution of five scholarship bursaries to young athletes.  The “Gildan Leadership Scholarship” is offered to student athletes who have not only distinguished themselves on the field and in the classroom, but who have also gone that extra step by playing leadership roles within their communities. The FAEQ is a non-governmental organization that provides financial support to student athletes in their pursuits of excellence and goals to further advance in their sport, while continuing to pursue their studies.

The grand winner of the Gildan Leadership category this year was Charles-David Beaudoin, a hockey player with Les Patriotes de l’UQTR. Charles-David initiated the project ‘Guerrier du match’ which enabled sick children to attend a hockey match. He is also a volunteer trainer within diverse organizations in the region.

“We are inspired by the determination and focus that these young athletes represent, not only to advance their sport, but to maintain their academic performance and also give back to their communities,” said Garry Bell, Vice-President Corporate Communications and Marketing.  “Our goal is to support these individuals who serve as role models for others who strive to pursue excellence in all aspects of their lives.”

At the foundation’s 31th gala, held on November 30th, Gildan granted scholarships to five student-athletes, bringing our total sponsorship to more than $112,000 since 2005. During the evening, the Foundation presented 86 student-athletes with grants totaling $230,750. These grants reward academic excellence in combination with the pursuit of high level sport, highlighting the individual’s leadership and perseverance.
