PT Freeport Indonesia Repatriated 15 Tropical Birds Back Into Rainforests of Papua

PT Freeport Indonesia’s Environmental Department helped return to the wild 15 native birds from the North Sumatra Natural Conservation Center.

Exotic birds make up the majority of trafficked wildlife. The repatriated birds are three large yellow birds of paradise, two black headed Pesquet parrots, nine sulfur crested cockatoos, and one long-tailed parakeet. The birds were kept in quarantine at the PTFI Environmental Department prior to release into their original habitat.

Fauna endemic to Papua is continuously and consistently monitored and protected.
