Fifteen plants power all of South Africa. So it’s critical that every power station remains operational, runs efficiently and, most importantly, safely in order to continually supply consistent, reliable power to keep the country’s infrastructure running. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the demand for power has only increased.

STANLEY Inspection, part of our STANLEY Oil & Gas business, currently has contracts with 5 of South Africa’s 15 power stations, including Majuba, the nation’s second largest energy provider. Since these power stations rely on well-used equipment, STANLEY Inspection plays a pivotal role in ensuring these facilities are operating safely to prevent a catastrophic power failure.

“In the midst of the current unprecedented circumstances we are experiencing as a result of COVID-19 and the approaching winter months, our exceptional teams work tirelessly to ensure our power grid remains operational throughout this time when our country needs it most.”

Shaun Meerholz, STANLEY Inspection Deputy General Manager

While the concept of inspection services might seem relatively straightforward, there’s a reason why STANLEY Inspection has market share across South Africa: their expertise and reliability. Using 15 different methods to identify defects in a broad spectrum of materials, they are able to identify incredibly small defects, because even a five-millimeter crack can result in $100 million or more in damages. During this pandemic, STANLEY Inspection has deployed over 500 representatives to ensure the safety and efficiency of key power stations across the country.

“Our economy and healthcare systems cannot function without power,” Meerholz said. “We are proud to be a part of the solution in keeping our country and millions of households connected throughout this time and beyond.”

With a surge in energy usage, now more than ever, the commitment and strategic daily efforts of the South African STANLEY Inspection team are paramount. Thanks to their attentiveness and industry-leading inspection technology, a large portion of the nation’s power grid continues to operate safely, providing uninterrupted power. In this challenging environment, having one less thing to worry about at home can make all the difference.
