In honor of Veterans Day, nearly 200 Team Depot volunteers, The Home Depot’s associate-led volunteer force, took time to paint, landscape, and beautify the homes of eight homeowners, including former service members in Atlanta, Georgia.

Army veteran, Kermit “Rob” Robinson, 73, served 20 years in the military and was in Vietnam. He was a military policeman, and a chemical and neurobiological specialist. Mr. Robinson and his wife enjoy doing yardwork and helping their neighbors in their close-knit community.

President and CEO Ted Decker surprised the couple with a brand-new lawnmower and THD gift card as part of Operation Surprise. Operation Surprise is The Home Depot Foundation’s annual campaign which aims to provide life-changing moments of surprise and support for veterans and communities in need.

The Home Depot Foundation is also surprising 1,000 U.S. veterans across the country with rental and mortgage payment assistance for the month of December, in honor of Veterans Day. Since 2011, The Foundation has invested more than $400 million in veterans causes and improved more than 50,000 veteran homes and facilities.
