Misconceptions of business sustainability as a passing trend are quickly falling by the wayside. Larger organizations, traditionally mistaken as burdened with a primary responsibility as change agents in the water, carbon, environment and climate change solutions are now shifting the burden to include suppliers and small businesses.

With increasing pressures for suppliers and small business to comply with the sustainable business strategies of these larger organizations, many executives, small business owners, and management teams are left in a vacuum as to where and how to identify, select, develop, and retain credible resources and information to garner a path forward towards sustainability.    While it’s generally the larger organizations sustainability efforts and successes that capture media attention and are used as best practice examples, it's the sustainability journey and successes of smaller organizations that are also leading the way.   Take for instance, Dolphin Blue, a Texas based online retailer of environmentally responsible office supplies. Not only has the company promoted the responsible stewardship of Earth's resources by encouraging the conscientious purchase of everyday business supplies since 1994, but it also leads in the sustainability space by providing tangible, every day sustainable products and eco information that challenges the question of where to start on the path to sustainability.    In fact - start with what is right in front of you - your office.  There are two components to an office:  its physical structure and its occupants.  Sustainable products like the ones sold through Dolphin Blue, contain, at minimum, 20 percent post-consumer recycled material, with many items being made of 100 percent post-consumer recycled material.  The products address the physical component, but what about employee eco awareness and behavior change?  Click here to continue reading.
