  • Passionate about the fate of our planet and its people?

  • Ready to do more to champion sustainability in your community?

Then you are an Emerging Leader, and invited to apply to be a part of the first ever cohort of the Sustainability Champions Program!

This innovative program is designed to provide tools, coaching, and support to participants as they lead change toward sustainability in their networks and communities. Grounded in The Natural Step Framework for Strategic Sustainable Development, participants are provided with a two day in-person workshop, as well as ongoing coaching and mentoring as they champion sustainability.

Our goal is to unleash the power of young sustainability leaders to catalyze change toward sustainability. Through this program you will improve your confidence in being a sustainability champion in your community.

You will choose a sustainability related project to engage your local community. You will be provided with ongoing support and resources through the Emerging Leaders Exchange and follow-up calls to help you plan and execute your project. It’s time for you to discover your inner champion! We’re here to support you along the way. 

Bring your own project or create one during the training! Proposed projects so far are:  

  • WE CANADA: Engage your local community in discussions about issues affecting all of us, in preparation for the upcoming Rio+20 Earth Summit.

  • The Otesha Project: Engage people you know by organizing or performing an Otesha play in your community. It's the funnest way to learn about how our individual choices affect the environment and people around the world.

This program is being offered by The Natural Step Canada in partnership with We Canada Initiative. The program runs from September to December 2011, and includes a two day in-person workshop in Ottawa on September 24 and 25. For complete details please read this brochure and APPLY ONLINE HERE. This program is generously funded through the Ontario Trillium Foundation. The total cost to participants is $50 and bursaries are available based on need. To ensure a quality learning environment, participation is limited to 30 spaces. So don’t delay--kick your love for our world into participatory action!

This course is offered in English and can be applied in the language of your choice.

Le programme se déroulera de septembre à décembre 2011, et inclut un atelier de deux jours qui aura lieu en personne à Ottawa les 24 et 25 septembre. About the Sustainability Champions Program

The goal of the Sustainability Champions Program is to unleash the power of young sustainability leaders to catalyze change toward sustainability. The program is designed to provide tools, coaching and support to participants as they lead change toward sustainability in their networks and communities.

Grounded in The Natural Step Framework for Strategic Sustainable Development, participants are provided with a two day in-person workshop, as well as ongoing coaching and mentoring as they champion sustainability. Opportunities for participants to assess their sustainability leadership skills are included.

The Champions program can be tailored to support existing or planned sustainability initiatives. For example, as youth support to a regional sustainability planning initiative, or in support of existing student sustainability advocacy work.
