With support from Arrow Electronics, National Jewish Health has set a new fundraising record to support its innovative treatments for respiratory disease. Sponsored by Arrow, the hospital’s recent Beaux Arts Ball drew more than 1,200 attendees and raised $2.4 million.

“We congratulate National Jewish Health for guiding medical innovation forward as the nation’s leading respiratory hospital,” said Mike Long, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Arrow.

Long and his wife, Karen, served as honorary grand marshals for the event. Mike Long also serves on the board of directors of the Denver Zoo and as a trustee of the National Western Stock Show. Karen Long supports several philanthropic organizations, including being on the board of directors of the Colorado Symphony Fund.

In 1899, National Jewish Health opened in Denver as the first institution in the nation with the primary goal of providing free care to indigent tuberculosis patients and restoring their health. Today, it is the only facility in the world dedicated exclusively to groundbreaking medical research and treatment of patients with respiratory, cardiac, immune and related disorders.

A portion of the gala was dedicated to raising money specifically to support care and research for children with lung disease. “We take care of every child no matter their ability to pay – we always have, and with the help of donors, we always will,” said Pamela Zeitlin, MD, MPhil, PhD, chair of the National Jewish Health Silverstein Family Department of Pediatrics.
