2013 has been a year of exciting milestones for Discovery Education, with the expansion of techbook offerings, the recent “Beyond Textbooks” event, and now, the inaugural Future@NOW: Transition to Digital Classrooms conference.

Today, Discovery Education and Digital Promise, a nonprofit organization chartered by Congress to spur innovation in education, in conjunction with many other leading education organizations, will launch this new conference at Discovery’s Headquarters in Silver Spring, MD to discuss one of the most important issues in education today: the state of digital learning and its impact on college and workforce readiness.

The conference, launched one year after the FCC and DOE’s Digital Textbook Playbook initiative, hopes to raise awareness about the benefits of digital learning and celebrate the successes of districts that have already deployed digital textbooks in meaningful ways in their classrooms. Additionally, Discovery will announce a new national initiative to provide free trial access to digital textbooks for educators across the country.
Educational leaders from across the country, including Congressman and Senior Democratic Member of the House Education and Workforce Committee George Miller, AASA Superintendent of the Year Dr. Mark Edwards, and superintendent of the nation’s 4th largest school system, Alberto Cavalho, will discuss the challenges of transitioning to digital learning, the impact of digital resources on students and teachers, and opportunities to advance the adoption of innovative digital tools in order to prepare today’s students for careers of tomorrow. Further, we’re excited to announce that Discovery’s Founder and Chairman, John Hendricks, will speak at the event.
