Duke Energy and Clemson University are hitting the road this summer behind the wheel of the Explore Mobile Lab, an innovative approach to educating middle school students across the Palmetto State about the critical and growing field of engineering. The program hopes to educate and engage young scientists and engineers who will be the future workforce for industries, such as electric utilities, that will need those skills to power communities in the 21st century. The mobile STEM lab is unique to South Carolina and was made possible by a $400,000 gift from Duke Energy.

The ribbon-cutting event for the mobile lab coincided with a camp on campus designed to promote interest in science and tech for middle school girls that Duke Energy has sponsored for more than 20 years. After the ribbon-cutting, the campers participated in experiments similar to those that the mobile lab will bring to schools across the state.
