Las Vegas Sands and Sands China Team Members Gather in Macao for Global Sands ECO360 Sustainability Summit

Sustainability Team Members from each of Las Vegas Sands’ various properties recently attended the 2016 Sands ECO360 Global Sustainability Summit. Also in attendance were some select Team Members from the company’s Macao properties, which included representatives from the following departments: housekeeping, food and beverage, convention and exhibition, facilities, procurement and supply chain, and engineering. The two-and-a-half day event took place at Conrad Macao, located in Sands Cotai Central and commenced with remarks from Katarina Tesarova, Vice President of Global Sustainability at Las Vegas Sands.

The summit included vision and action planning, and laid the framework for future global sustainable events and initiatives at Las Vegas Sands properties in the United States and Asia. The conference served as an opportunity to foster collaboration across the company’s various departments and properties, learn about recent sustainability-related innovations and achievements, and brainstorm the future of the Sands ECO360 program.

The Sands ECO360 Global Sustainability program reflects the company’s vision to become a leader in sustainable development and resort operations. The strategy is based on the environmental issues identified as being of most importance to Las Vegas Sands, its stakeholders and to society. Sands ECO360 encompasses sustainable best practices, technologies and methodologies across all properties in one global program with a united vision, mission and goals.

There were several notable highlights from the summit, including a presentation on science-based targets, as well as an interactive panel discussion on the Sands ECO360 program led by Mark McWhinnie, SVP of Resort Operations and Development, and Norbert Riezler, SVP & Chief Procurement and Sustainability Officer.

Additionally, a discussion on procuring more sustainable food and beverage options was guided by presentations from Kevin Teng, Executive Director of Sustainability at Marina Bay Sands and Pranav Jampari, Director of Sustainability at The Venetian, The Palazzo, Sands Expo, along with Syed Mubarak, Director of Sustainability & MEP-Plant Operations at Sands China Ltd.  

Other program highlights included a presentation on existing and emerging energy technologies by John Hess, Executive Director of Engineering, as well as a tour of the company’s newest property, The Parisian, led by Rishi Tirupati, Director of Sustainability at Sands China Ltd.
