Mary Kay Visits Capitol Hill

Last week was the second annual Direct Selling Summit on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. The Mary Kay Inc. Public Affairs team and Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultants joined the Direct Selling Association and more than 450 independent distributors to spread the word about direct selling and the opportunity it provides to almost 17 million Americans.

The Public Affairs team helps Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultants by protecting and enhancing the Company, its reputation, channel and product to help them achieve their dreams and goals. And, what better way to tell elected officials the Mary Kay and direct selling story than from our own Independent Beauty Consultants! We spend a lot of time on Capitol Hill and at numerous state capitols throughout the year and policymakers appreciate hearing from us; however, nothing says "we care about our industry" better than hearing it from the women and men who are the cornerstone of the direct selling industry.

The Mary Kay team spent the day meeting with members of Congress and their staff from Texas, California, Maryland and Virginia. They told their individual story, talked about the reasons they became a Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant and how it has impacted their lives. You may wonder, "why is it so important to tell the story?" Because our Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultants are the subject matter experts on the opportunity, the products and their businesses and we know that what they have to say is what resonates with policy makers. By educating our nation's leaders about the direct selling industry we're able to revisit these conversations when legislation is introduced that can impact direct sellers.

Spending our day with hundreds of direct sellers and our Mary Kay Independent sales force is definitely the best way to spend a Hill Lobby Day!
