Neil deGrasse Tyson's Science Talk Show 'StarTalk' Returns for New Season on Nat Geo Channel

Following a successful first season and an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Informational Series, Neil deGrasse Tyson's science-focused talk show StarTalk returned for its second season on 21st Century Fox's National Geographic Channel on Sunday, October 25. The series, based on Tyson's popular radio show and podcast of the same name, features comedians, academics, and celebrity guests such as President Bill Clinton, Susan Sarandon, and Seth MacFarlane in conversation with Tyson about how science affects their lives and careers. StarTalk airs at 11/10c on Sundays on National Geographic Channel.
"The overall goal is to stimulate interest in science for people who never knew they had an interest in it," Tyson told Rolling Stone. "Or even better, the people who know they're not interested in science."
Each episode is recorded before a studio audience in the Cullman Hall of the Universe at the American Museum of Natural History's Rose Center for Earth and Space in New York City, where Tyson has served as the Frederick P. Rose Director of the Hayden Planetarium since 1996. Over the course of the series, Tyson gathers an eclectic range of public figures in science, politics, and entertainment to demonstrate how science and technology affect all areas of life.
"At its best, I think the show reveals the ubiquity of science in our lives," Tyson told The Guardian. "When you realize that you're embedded in a world that thrives on scientific principles and engineering principles and math, then perhaps people will view science a little different... Not as something to fear, but will welcome it into their lives."
StarTalk is one of several upcoming programs at Nat Geo that explore the forefront of modern science. In addition to a new episode of StarTalk, November 1 will also see the premiere of Explorer: Bill Nye's Global Meltdown, a special installment of Explorer in which acclaimed educator Bill Nye investigates how communities around the world are addressing the issue of climate change, as well as the launch of Breakthrough, a new documentary series in which six Hollywood visionaries bring to life the stories, people, and technology behind the world's most cutting-edge scientific innovations.
