Nevada Homeless Alliance Sponsor of the Year Sands Cares Helps the Organization…

The Nevada Homeless Alliance (NHA) organizes Project Homeless Connect, a series of service events bringing providers together in a single place to help those in need in the local Las Vegas community. With the assistance of Sands Cares, recently honored as the NHA Sponsor of the Year, the organization is able to better deliver on its mission.

A Southern Nevada nonprofit established in 1992, the NHA engages in advocacy related to issues of homelessness, and coordinates with multiple local and regional partners and initiatives to deliver services to those in need. With Sands Cares, our corporate charitable giving and community engagement program, and other community organizations, the NHA is able to serve more people and provide greater service.

The annual Project Homeless Connect is the cornerstone of the NHA’s outreach, serving 5,000 people in 2019. At the event, over 3,500 hygiene kits and thousands of articles of clothing were distributed to those in need. Gathered providers also helped attendees with housing assistance, workforce resources,   replacement of important government documents like Social Security cards, government cell phones and more.

In recognition of its ongoing support of the NHA and Project Homeless Connect, Sands Cares was named the NHA Sponsor of the Year on February 6. “Being named Sponsor of the Year by such an incredible community partner is a great honor to our company, and it’s an honor we share with all our Team Members, who are collectively the backbone of our outreach programs,” said Stephanie Stanton, Sands Cares director. Sands Cares provides financial support, in the amount of over $100,000 in 2019, along with in-kind support, as well, such as donating 350 tables and 1,200 chairs for the most recent annual event this past November.

Additionally, Sands Cares has contributed invaluable organizational assistance, taking the lead in bringing the Nevada Resort Association on board as a collective unit to support the NHA and Project Homeless Connect. “We may compete in business with the other resort companies, but when it comes to helping out our community, that’s one area we’re not competing in. We’re collaborating,” Stanton said. “Getting the Nevada Resort Association involved resulted in more donations of clean water, diapers and other essential items, and also countless volunteers for the Project Homeless Connect event.”

Along with the annual Project Homeless Connect event, the NHA also organizes and hosts monthly pop-up events, which take place at different locations through the Las Vegas area. At any given pop-up, up to 150 different organizations may be represented, providing everything from medical care to serving meals. Project Homeless Connect pop-up events even offer pet services, such as vaccinations and check-ups, grooming and food donations.
