Rob Refsnyder of the New York Yankees Goes Above and Beyond for Foster Children
Rob Refsnyder of the New York Yankees knows a thing or two about standing out from the rest.
Refsnyder was adopted out of South Korea when he was an infant to a couple from Southern California. He became a three-sport standout at Laguna Hills High School, and enrolled at the University of Arizona to play college baseball. He was the Arizona Wildcats right fielder, and led his team to the 2012 College World Series championship. Refsnyder was named the CWS Most Outstanding Player.
Refsnyder believes hard work and determination have made him successful or, as some might say, an overachiever. But his drive isn’t limited to the baseball field; it extends to his commitment to the community, as well.
The Yankees’ utility infielder has partnered with Athletes Brand, a “for-purpose” fashion brand that sells clothing designed by professional athletes with proceeds from sales benefitting a charity that the athletes select.
Together, they created the “Overachiever” t-shirt – using a word that that embodies Refsnyder‘s drive for success – with proceeds from each sale used to help feed and provide shelter for youth at A Kid’s Place of Tampa Bay, which provides foster care and a loving home for abused, neglected or abandoned children.
Refsnyder and Athletes Brand are asking fans to buy one t-shirt for themselves and one to honor an “overachiever” in their lives. Their goal is to pay tribute to people who are beating the odds by doing more than what is expected of them and inspiring others to work harder.
