U.S. Army Reservist

As I write this, I am preparing for my next tour of active duty in the Army Reserves. I will spend most of May, National Military Appreciation Month, with thousands of reservists participating in an exercise to increase our lethality, readiness and survivability.

It is an honor to have served 31 years in the military. I feel as though military service members owe it to our fellow Americans to do our best and be ready if duty calls. All this is possible because there are teams who supports us in every facet of our lives. There is the home team – a great thanks to my family as they bear the brunt of my absence. In addition, there is the away team at work. I am humbled by the unending support of my day-to-day team at Wells Fargo who supports me and the more than 200 reserve team members on active duty at any given time.

Over the years, Wells Fargo has developed several resources for military service members and veterans, from post-military transition to finding meaningful careers. Since 2012, we have hired more than 10,800 veterans. If you are a veteran looking for career opportunities, here are a few Wells Fargo programs to consider:

Veteran Employment Transition (VET): The VET Program is an eight to ten week internship program that provides an opportunity for veterans to understand the day-to-day responsibilities of a regular Wells Fargo team member, deepen their professional experience, network by learning on the job, and participate in special training opportunities.

Apprenticeships: A Department of Labor structured experiential training program, which results in skills certification for applicants who do not initially meet required qualifications for the non-apprentice equivalent role. Eligible veterans may use their GI Bill or vocational rehabilitation benefits to receive a tax-free wage supplement.

The Wells Fargo Veterans Scholarship Program: A Scholarship America® program committed to assisting veterans in completing postsecondary education programs so they may return to, and succeed in, a competitive job market.

In closing, I am grateful for the support of our community, especially my employer, for providing resources, programs and quality careers opportunities to thousands of military service members and veterans.  If you haven’t found an organization that honors your service and provides meaningful employment, check out www.wellsfargojobs.com/military.

This National Military Appreciation Month, I thank our military service members, veterans and their families, and Wells Fargo for giving so many of us a place to build a career.
