The Venetian Resort Las Vegas was recognized for their community service through Sands Cares, the company’s corporate giving and Team Member engagement program, at the 2018 Governor’s Points of Light Awards in October. Sands Cares integrates the company’s philanthropic work worldwide including financial giving, Team Member volunteerism, and in-kind support while making an impact in the areas we care about most: our people, planet, and communities. Seven awards were given out by Lieutenant Governor Mark Hutchison at the annual awards ceremony including Sands Cares in Las Vegas for the Corporate and Business Volunteer Program.

The Governor’s Points of Light Awards Ceremony honors individuals, community-based organizations and businesses for their contribution to communities through volunteer service. Those who are nominated or receive the awards embody the strength and unity of Nevadans serving as points of light in their communities. A panel of leaders in business, government, and nonprofits all over the state select the winners based on criteria that show how their volunteerism demonstrates achievement need, innovation, mobilization, and endurance. The awards are also the highest honor bestowed on a volunteer in Nevada.

“It is such an incredible honor to be nominated and recognized by our nonprofit partners,” Stephanie Stanton, director of Sands Cares at The Venetian said. “This award is the culmination of the hard work and generosity of our Team Members as they work to make the community a better place to live and work. It is incredibly gratifying to know our team is committed to service, both as members of the hospitality industry and citizens as well.”

Throughout the year, Sands Cares offers several volunteer opportunities for Team Members in the local Las Vegas community including the annual global hygiene kit build and blood driveKLUC Toy DriveNevada’s Big Give, and much more. In 2018, Sands Cares adopted its first school with a donation to fund free books and literacy programs for more than 800 students through 2020.
