"goIT Monthly Challenge August 2022 Winner"

TCS’s goIT program engages students from diverse backgrounds to bridge the learning curve with STEM, Computer Science, Design Thinking, and Digital Innovation. The program offers an industry-developed, customizable curriculum that teaches students 21st-century skills necessary for a career in technology. Lessons cover topics like the innovation life cycle, rapid prototyping, design thinking, and more.

Since its inception in the summer of 2020, thousands of students across the globe have participated in TCS’s goIT Monthly Challenge. Students have used key principles from TCS’ flagship STEM education program goIT, to design a tech-based solution and submit a pitch video to the challenge theme. Each month, TCS partners with a globally-minded nonprofit to serve as our SDG ambassador alongside a monthly TCS customer co-host. Together, we have explored topics ranging from gender equality to systemic racism all the way to protecting life underwater. Teacher interest and student engagement in this monthly experience has been tremendous and continues to increase month over month.

In August 2022, TCS partnered with non-profit Saudi Sustainable Club, and client NEOM Tech & Digital Company, to challenge students to create a digital innovation that supports more inclusive, safe, and resilient living conditions.

Congratulations to Aishani B., of Cumming, Georgia, for creating the winning app “SchoolPool”! Volunteer judges from TCS were impressed by all the entries, but ultimately Aishani’s innovation stood at the top. SchoolPool’s goal is to help manage school carpooling in an effective and practical manner. School Pool is a ride-sharing app that allows anyone to “make a little money, save a little money, and put the empty seat to work,” while cleaning up traffic congestion, providing safer transportation to younger children, and reducing pollution.

According to Aishani, setting up carpools “is a lot of work organizing and managing, and most people drop out of the arrangement” and end up driving on their own. “This sparked an idea: if we use technology, it would not only help students and parents, but so many people in the community!”
