Team Up For Women!® Tea Cup Auction
Team Up for Women!® kicked off last week! In honor of this campaign, this week’s blog is written by Mary Kay Independent Senior Sales Director Jan Adams. Nine years ago, she created a Team Up for Women!® event from a childhood memory. The event is still going strong and has raised more than $10,000 in all.
We’d love to hear your Team Up for Women!® ideas too! Send them to me at firstname.lastname@example.org or post a comment below.
Childhood Memory Becomes Fundraiser
To achieve great things, two things are needed: a plan and not quite enough time.

Picture this: you just found out that your favorite celebrity will be at your next meeting.
That’s exactly how I felt when I found out that I had a million-dollar Mary Kay Independent Sales Director coming to my next unit meeting. I felt the pressure to come up with something better than a typical weekly meeting!
So I decided to use the Team Up for Women!® theme at the meeting.
I remembered attending our church bazaar every year when I was growing up. We would buy tickets and use them to bid on items, like gently-loved costume jewelry or knick-knacks. Instead of bags or boxes, my church used tea cups to collect these tickets.
Voila! My tea cup auction was born. I initially bought items for the auction or had them donated.
I told members of my unit to invite customers or friends and bring them to our unit meeting that year, and we raised $500 for The Mary Kay FoundationSM.
Through the years, the auction has snowballed. People look forward to it all year! After all, everyone knows somebody affected by cancer.
This year, we hope to raise $5,000 and have more than 100 people from Southwest Florida attend. Since our event has grown, we don’t use actual tea cups anymore. Instead, we use bags with a picture of a tea cup on them.
I remember Mary Kay reminding us of the law of the sower: what you give out will come back to you tenfold. We’ve definitely seen this with our Tea Cup Auction.
