Arby’s Embeds Purpose into its Business Strategy

(3BL Media/Justmeans) – Corporate sustainability reporting has become a mainstream business activity in recent years. The UN Global Compact figures show that about 12,000 organizations now report their impact. While annual sustainability reporting is a time-consuming exercise, it serves as a key communication with various stakeholders who are increasingly interested to learn about a company’s sustainability efforts and on-ground impact.

Arby’s has now released its inaugural CSR report titled PurposeFULL, which offers important insights into the restaurant chain’s efforts in four major areas – YouthFULL, SkillFULL, ResourceFULL, and FlavorFULL – that address youth empowerment, team member development, energy and water efficiency, and food quality and integrity.

Paul Brown, CEO of Arby’s said that publishing the first CSR report demonstrates the company’s investment in its guests, team members and communities. For more than half a century, Arby’s has strived to be an exceptional corporate citizen, and with the new CSR report, the company now has a roadmap that will guide its PurposeFULL approach to the business going forward.

In 2015, Arby’s raised a record $3.7 million during its National Restaurant Fundraiser in support of Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign. The company also launched School’s Out, Food’s In initiative, which supported nine communities and offered 1.6 million meals through a Meal Card program.

Arby’s was named in 2015 among the best and brightest companies to work for in the country by the National Association for Business Resources, and is a finalist again in 2016. Earlier this year, the company announced that it achieved its “15 percent by 2015” energy reduction goal by reducing energy consumption per company-owned restaurant by 15.2 percent since 2011.

The company reduced water use among company-owned restaurants by 8.6 percent over the same period. The decrease in energy and water usage resulted in $20.4 million of energy-related cost savings. Arby’s further established industry leadership in energy efficiency by joining the Better Buildings Challenge in 2015.

Arby’s continues to follow the highest standards in the food industry. The company is constantly analyzing and innovating how it sources and prepares food. This ensures that the food Arby’s serves every day is freshly prepared, delicious, safe and nutritious.
