Behmor Donates Equipment To Empower Women's Coffee Producers

(3BL Media/Justmeans) - Women make the majority of coffee producers. In fact, almost the totality of it, since they are responsible for up to 90 percent of the fieldwork of producing coffee. But here's the catch - they only own 15 percent of the harvest, which means they suffer from the greatest inequities in the market.

The International Women’s Coffee Alliance (IWCA) was created to tackle this gender-based injustice. With a reach of 22 countries, it recently got a boost of $32,000 of equipment donated by coffee equipment manufacturer Behmor to improve female producers' knowledge of quality control.

This is particularly important because many coffee farmers don't ever touch the coffee they produce, so they cannot really evaluate coffee quality and put buyer feedback into context. If they can do that, they can improve product and boost prices.

Behmor is donating two Behmor 1600 Plus Roasters and one Behmor Brazen Plus Coffeemaker to 21 different IWCA Chapters, in Latin America, Africa, and Asia in order to allow coffee producers to roast and taste their coffee. The high-quality, easy-to-use equipment is designed for users and prosumers. To make it even easier, Behmor is also producing video tutorials to help users make the most of the equipment. The company is also covering the cost of freight and delivery.

The donation is part of Behmor's Inspired initiative, which has donated US $160,000 of equipment and shipping over the past 16 months to coffee associations and cooperatives in several producing countries.
