Carlsberg Celebrates 170th Anniversary With The Coolest Bar In The World
(3BL Media/Justmeans) - Carlsberg is celebrating 170 years of existence and it has decided to mark the date with a message of sustainability. The company has recently committed to 100 percent renewable electricity and zero emissions at its breweries. In line with that, it has built a ZERO Carbon Windmill Bar in the historical Carlsberg District in Copenhagen, the Danish capital where Carlsberg is based.
The bar features two technologies that the Danes love: windmill and bicycles. It is powered by the former, but consumers can pedal up power to pour their beer in case the wind stops blowing.
“After committing to 100% renewable electricity and zero carbon emissions at our breweries, we challenged ourselves to create a fully carbon-neutral beer bar. Coming from Denmark, it only felt natural that we did this using windmills and bicycles," Carlsberg’s director of sustainability, Simon Boas Hoffmeyer, said in a statement.
ZERO Carbon Windmill Bar will be open to consumers over the course of the week-long celebration of Carlsberg’s 170th anniversary week in the bicycle-loving capital.
Carlsberg's sustainability program, called Together Towards ZERO, is part and parcel of the company's SAIL’22 CSR and sustainability strategy. It has four main goals: ZERO carbon footprint, ZERO water waste, ZERO irresponsible drinking and a ZERO accidents culture.
The company designed Together Towards ZERO with the help of global experts using a science- based approach. It is also aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and it aims to deliver emission reductions that are more ambitious compared with the base level set out in the Paris Agreement on climate change.
