Diversity Is The Word At Lockheed Martin
(3BL Media/Justmeans) - “Conscious Inclusion": this is the phrase defense and security company Lockheed Martin has coined to name its program that promotes diversity and equal opportunities within the organization. The program has three main focus areas: employee engagement, inclusive leadership and diversity outreach.
The strategy is explained in the latest company report, which also describes initiatives from the company's tens of resource groups, professional development, forums and councils, covering racial minorities, LGBT employees, women, veterans and others.
The report highlights some of the diversity advances in recent years. Lockheed Martin achieved a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign's Corporate Equality Index. It has also been recognized as one of the “Best Places to Work for LGBT Equality” for 2017. The company is also a recognized supporter of Historically Black Colleges and Universities, supporting initiatives at 22 minority-serving institutions working to promote diverse STEM talent.
In 2016 the company organized seven leadership forums focusing on leadership development, business strategy and networking. It also held its annual Diversity Day at 30 locations across the country. Besides, more than 2,100 employees participated in the 4th annual Walk of Inclusion.
Promoting diversity and inclusing fosters collaboration and innovation, Lockheed Martin says, and makes it more open to change, besides creating a more welcoming and supportive work environment.
