T5’s Food Trash Turns to Healthy Soils

    In 2016, our JFK T5 composting program put 100,000 pounds of food waste back to work. This saved roughly 38 tonnes* of CO2e emissions (because greenhouse gases are released during the landfill process).

    The Louisiana coastline loses an average of more than 16 square miles of wetlands per year according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority of Louisiana (CPRA) is the single state entity with authority to develop, articulate, implement, and enforce a comprehensive coastal restoration and protection master plan to reduce hurricane storm surge flood impact, restore Louisiana’s bountiful natural resources, build land to protect critical energy infrastructure, and secure Louisiana’s coast now and for future generations.

    HPE will be the first company to enable suppliers to set science-based GHG reduction targets in their own operations. Launched in May, the program will enable 80% of manufacturing suppliers, by spend, to reduce their own emissions in line with the targets that climate science says is necessary to prevent dangerous global warming. This effort seeks to avoid 100 million tons of emissions by 2025, equivalent to taking 21 million passenger vehicles off the road for one year.

    The Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) selected Tetra Tech to complete a feasibility study and preliminary engineering and design for the Calcasieu Ship Channel (CSC) Salinity Control Measures Project to develop and evaluate alternatives to reduce wetland loss rates. Coastal Louisiana has undergone substantial land loss due to sea level rise, subsidence, modification of freshwater and sediment delivery to wetlands, saltwater intrusion, and wind-induced erosion.
