CSX and the Arbor Day Foundation Work Together to Plant the Future

CSX’s community partners help us achieve a wide range of corporate responsibility goals – one of which is being a committed neighbor and environmental steward. Our employees realize that part of their job is being an integral part of the communities where CSX operates.

So this Earth Day, we’re celebrating our partnership with one of our CSX community partners: The Arbor Day Foundation. Last fall, some of the Arbor Day Foundation staff met with CSX colleagues who planted trees at one of our Philadelphia service days.

Fighting Cancer at the Summit


Larry Ward climbs mountains to combat cancer. 

In the last five years, he and his team -- who refer to themselves as Climbing for Cancer -- have reached the top of the tallest mountains in nearly all 50 states. 

Ward, who retired from the Benton Harbor-based appliance maker [Whirlpool Corporation] almost a year ago, is one of several people who raise money for Relay for Life in an effort to combat cancer. Whirlpool Corp. employees and retirees have been involved in Relay for Life of Berrien County since 1996.

Several years ago, when I was offered a management position at a plastics recycling company, I had no idea that it would change the way I thought about manufacturing.  Once I was able to take in and comprehend the volume of materials that are recycled and reused in all types of industries, I was surprised, to say the least.
