Conflict-Free Tin Earns Twice The Price

Tin-mining companies that are certified as conflict-free are reported to be receiving double the price for their ore compared to those who are uncertified. Mines in participation of the “bag and tag” certification are earning $4/kg for tin compared to $2/kg for non certified.  But only about 10% of the of the mines in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) are currently in the traceability system and being accepted as conflict-free.

In a new collaboration between the Conflict-Free Source Initiative (CFSI) and the Tungsten Industry Conflict Minerals Council (TI-CMC), Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) tungsten smelters will now be able to become validated as conflict-free.  This program comes as needed help to companies that have been working to source conflict minerals in their supply chain in efforts to comply with Dodd-Frank 1502.
