Delays in Creation of EU Conflict Minerals Law


Given the success of US Dodd–Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, the EU was expected to follow suite and craft their own conflict minerals reporting law. But it seems that an impact assessment and proposal are taking longer than expected to come before the college of EU commissioners, and now it looks like it will not happen until the spring. The fear now is that if a law is not drafted before the european election in May, it may never happen because of the changing of the guard.

Summit on Responsible Mineral Supply Chains Kicks Off in Kigali


Delegates have convened in Kigali, Rwanda to discuss the highly controversial mineral trade in the great lakes region. The sixth Summit on Responsible Mineral Supply Chains is organized by the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), in partnership with the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and the UN Group of Experts on DRC. Also in attendance at the summit are international watchdogs, Global Witness and the Enough Project who use the platform to debate and listen to those involved freely.

Knowing how competitive the job market was, “serious experience” always seemed to trump my “makin the bacon”. I told myself that I’d never settle for a crappy job just because I could make a little money. If I landed a job where I knew I’d be learning something, the money didn’t matter.
