America’s Best Employers were selected based on an independent survey of over 50,000 employees working for companies with at least 1,000 people employed in their U.S. locations. Employees were asked to evaluate their own employers as well as other companies in their industries.

The annual ranking is calculated by analyzing actions taken by over half a billion LinkedIn users and weighs three main metrics – job applications, engagement and employee retention – at U.S. companies with over 500 employees.

Ken Chenault, the former CEO of American Express, often paraphrased Napoleon in saying that leaders need to define reality and give hope. Essentially, it is up to leaders to tell their people what is happening now and inspire them by outlining the opportunities that the future holds for them both individually and institutionally.
In sum, leaders need to tell a good story. An authentic, believable and realistic one. But, one filled with promise of a better day, and how we’re going to get there.
