Carlos Gomez Helps Establish $13,000 Scholarship Fund for Hispanic Students


Carlos Gomez has helped establish a $13,000 fund to award scholarships for Hispanic students to attend Milwaukee Area Technical College.

A $4,000 commitment from Gomez was matched by a $4,000 donation from the League of United Latin American Citizens Council #333 and a $5,000 donation from the Milwaukee Area Technical College Foundation to create the MATC LULAC Carlos Gomez Hispanic Scholarship Fund.

Manheim Ohio Wins 2015 Corporate Caring Award


Columbus Business First announced the honorees and finalists for the 2015 Corporate Caring Awards. The program honors for-profit companies for their financial contributions, volunteer service and other unique contributions to Columbus' charities and nonprofit organizations. Manheim Ohio was selected as a winner in the Medium Company category for its work with Canine Companions for Independence.

Meals On Wheels America and Subaru Launch Online Volunteer Drive

Subaru will be teaming up with Meals on Wheels to make volunteering at over 1,000 chapters across all 50 states easier than ever through an Online Volunteer Drive. Locally, some Subaru retailers will also be hosting volunteer drives at their locations where people around the country can pledge to volunteer. Retailers will also have the opportunity to adopt a Meals on Wheels route and to host “Stuff the Trunk” events, where food and supply donations are collected and delivered to a local senior center.

Urban Park Brings Fun for Kids

The recently unveiled Benito Juarez Park in Maywood, CA, was partially funded by a $50,000 Edison International grant.

The community of Maywood in southeast Los Angeles is the most densely populated city west of the Mississippi River. Homes are built very close together and kids have little room to play. But the landscape is changing as one of three vacant lots was recently transformed into a pocket park.
