Feb. 6, 2014 /3BL Media/ - Since 2007, the Beverage Industry Environmental Roundtable (BIER) has conducted an annual quantitative benchmarking study to evaluate water use and strengthen the understanding and practice of water stewardship in the beverage industry.  Adding to this knowledge, in 2012 BIER concluded the first energy use benchmarking study to provide insight into energy use efficiencies within the beverage industry and pave the way for future evaluation of greenhouse gas performance.

Since 2009, Stillwater Jr. High of Minnesota has raised and donated over $50,000 for water projects in South Sudan through an H2O for Life sponsorship. Inspired by the story of the Lost Boys of Sudan (refugee boys displaced by internal conflicts in Sudan and South Sudan), teacher Sara Damon has worked with her students to host walk-a-thons, bake sales, performances and other creative fundraisers to raise the money for water projects in South Sudan and to teacher her students about social justice and the water crisis.

I met Roz Savage, British ocean rower and environmental campaigner at a San Francisco fundraising dinner over five years ago.  It was fairly early on in her campaign “to bring us all together, by rowing by herself across our oceans for our planet and to demonstrate how we can change things, one stroke at a time.” I was very inspired by the lifestyle choices she had made and her commitment to a life purpose not to mention the courage it takes to row single handed across oceans.   And she rowed across three – Atlantic, Pacific and Indian!
