ING KiDS ROCK Gets Kids Running in Dallas

Screaming kids and a pop-punk rock alternative music group set the stage for ING Kids Rock Dallas on Saturday, March 24, at Fair Park in Dallas, Texas. Nearly 800 kids in grades K–7 became “marathon finishers,” completing a cumulative marathon training program of 25.2 miles in the weeks leading up to race day. On race day, the kids felt a huge sense of accomplishment as they crossed the finish line. They received a medal, T-shirt and goodie bag.

Guess what? Kids love running in the rain just as much as they love playing in the snow! It was evident at ING KiDS ROCK D.C. on Friday, March 16, at the D.C. Armory’s Parking Lot 6. The rain couldn’t stop nearly 800 kids in grades K-7 from running their final one mile. “It’s awesome that these kids can boast about being ‘marathoners’ — not something a lot of adults can claim,” said Dr. Andy Baldwin, U.S. Navy physician and ING KiDS ROCK and ING Run For Something Better® ambassador.

An Outside View: Communications Empowering Colombian Youth

PCI-Media Impact (Media Impact) and Fundación Social have partnered to launch four new Entertainment-Education (E-E) initiatives to promote youth participation in the design of community development plans throughout Colombia.  Entertainment-Education is the purposeful incorporation of educational content into entertaining media to simultaneously inform and amuse audiences. 

The initiative specifically targets nearly 100,000 youth in four regions of Colombia – Bogotá, Ibagué, Pasto and Union and Barbosa – all of which have been identified by Fundación Social as high priority areas.   The total population of these four regions is more than 2.2 million people. The program will use a variety of media to give legitimacy to youth cultural expressions in their communities; encourage youth participation in community development planning; and promote peaceful co-existence for citizen.

The program officially launched during a workshop from April 4th to 9th in Colombia.  Below, Media Impact Partnership Officer, Sylvia Torres, shares her thoughts on the workshop.
