Each year BNSF Railway invests significantly in capital commitments to continually enhance and improve its network for the benefit of its customers and the communities it serves. BNSF has invested more than $42 billion since 2000 in infrastructure, equipment and technology, including a record $4.3 billion in 2013. In this video BNSF highlights some of those investments including the completion of Logistics Park Kansas City.

LPKC is equipped with five wide-span, electric, rail-mounted gantry cranes, which produce zero emissions on site and significantly reduce the number of hostler trucks needed to move containers within the facility. It also features an automated gate system for trucks as they enter and exit the intermodal facility, a biometric driver identification system and digital cameras to record images of containers, chassis and tractors. These elements increase security, while improving throughput and reducing truck idling and emissions.
