Last year, JetBlue launched an online #BookBattle competition as part of its award-winning Soar with Reading program. The airline asked crewmembers and the public which community -- Detroit, Fort Lauderdale, Houston, Los Angeles or New York City -- should get 100,000 new children's books from JetBlue in 2016. Nearly 1.3 million online votes were cast and Detroit triumphed with 48 percent of the vote.

Last week, at a Soar with Reading event in Detroit, basketball superstar Andre Drummon surprised some of his smallest fans with free books and treated them to a story. Andre commended JetBlue for providing age-appropriate reading material for children in underserved communities. This summer JetBlue is dispensing free books via five vendign machines in Detroit. So fare more than 45,000 books have been provided to kids around Detroit, and there's still plenty of time left to help JetBlue pick which of four JetBlue cities --Boston, Fort Lauderdale, Long Beach or New York -- should win books in 2017.
