Reduce, reuse, recycle. These are the “three R’s” of protecting our environment, a mantra taught in schools and repeated in brochures.

Most of us understand the first R: use less. And, the third, recycle, gets its share of attention, thanks to the seemingly ubiquitous recycling bins and programs around the world.

But the middle R, reuse—often overlooked or underappreciated—is number two in this list for good reason. Before we recycle, it’s important to try to find a second life, another use for a product or its parts, especially in the world of electronics, where so much seems disposable.

That’s what Arrow’s value recovery business does. It works with its customers to give additional life to computers, tablets, smartphones, servers and other electronic devices or to reuse their still-valuable component parts. And it works. Arrow’s Value Recovery business kept an estimated 54 million metric tons of electronic waste out of landfills in 2014.
