Lockheed Martin Employees Embrace Earth Day All Year Long

Apr 22, 2019 8:00 PM ET

This week, Lockheed Martin employees around the world will come together for informational events and volunteer activities focused on Earth Day. Their commitment to the environment is on display throughout the year, however. In 2018, for example, Lockheed Martin employees:

  • Collected over 18 tons of hazardous household materials that could have otherwise ended up in landfills or the natural environment during a “Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day” in Lufkin, Texas.

  • Coordinated two clean-up events that brought 65 employees together to beautify nine miles of roadside in Syracuse, New York.

  • Sponsored a public beach clean-up and coastal purification project in New Zealand where volunteers donated over 200 hours of time.

  • Participated in an annual clean-up of the Cow Pen Creek area of the Chesapeake Bay watershed, which is located near the company’s longtime Middle River, Maryland facility – this was Lockheed Martin’s tenth year participating in the event.

  • Came together for a “Clean Up the World” event in Poland where they collected 578 lbs. of cardboard waste and 446 lbs. of e-waste.

Additional examples of Lockheed Martin’s commitment to the environment will be featured in the corporation’s annual sustainability report, which will be released later this week.
