Minimizing Construction’s Carbon Footprint: CNH Industrial Solving the Emissions Problem With Technology

CNH Industrial (NYSE: CNHI/MI: CNHI) unveiled the industry’s first electric backhoe loader at this week’s CONEXPO in Las Vegas, North America’s largest construction trade show and innovation showcase.

It’s part of the growing movement towards electrification as the sector is turning to a combination of technology and alternative energy sources to reduce emissions and minimize its carbon footprint.

This includes replacing traditional fossil fuels with alternative propulsion – cleaner, greener alternatives like electricity that perform as well or better than conventional tools but come with zero emissions, less noise, decreased maintenance and lower operating costs.

It’s all part of CNH Industrial’s commitment to sustainability that drives the company and its brands to continuously push the boundaries of what’s possible with clean energy and introduce new technology that is game-changing for both industry and environment.

The 580 EV electric backhoe loader, introduced by CASE Construction Equipment, a brand of CNH Industrial, features the same power and performance of the diesel-powered backhoes in CASE’s product line. It’s powered by a lithium-ion battery pack that can be charged in any 220-volt/three-phase connection; each charge supports four hours of continuous, production-level use or a common eight-hour work day.

Now available on the market, the 580 EV is ideally suited for public works and government operations or utility contractors who have to meet strict regulations around noise and emissions, as well as tight budgets. Its launch marks the start of CASE’s drive to electrify numerous equipment categories in its fleet, but the commitment to alternative fuels has been a key building block in many of its recent concept machines.

CONEXPO also marks the North American trade show debut of ProjectTETRA, a methane-powered concept wheel loader with an average of 80% fewer polluting emissions than a standard diesel engine.

The ultimate goal for CASE and CNH Industrial is to drive positive change for the industry and for the environment by making equipment cleaner and more sustainable while finding new ways to improve productivity and lower costs.

CASE Construction Equipment sells and supports a full line of construction equipment around the world, including the No. 1 backhoe loaders, excavators, motor graders, wheel loaders, vibratory compaction rollers, crawler dozers, skid steers, compact track loaders and rough-terrain forklifts.

CNH Industrial manufactures and markets construction and agricultural equipment under its Case IH, New Holland Agriculture, Case Construction and New Holland Construction brands, as well as powertrains for FPT Industrial in North America.
