Trane, a leading global provider of indoor comfort solutions and services and a brand of Ingersoll Rand, addressed energy efficiency and sustainability and presented innovative heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) solutions at the Greenbuilding Brazil (GBC) - International Conference and Expo, held earlier this month in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

"Trane is committed to offering solutions that combine efficiency and sustainability to meet the needs of customers in Brazil,” said Manoel LS Gameiro, commercial product management leader for the Latin America region. “As a founding member of the Green Building Council, Trane is dedicated to sustainable solutions and to promoting industry-wide sustainability through events such as the Greenbuilding Brazil – International Conference and Expo,” said Gameiro.

At the closing session of the conference, Maria Blase, president of HVAC and Transport Latin America for Ingersoll Rand, addressed conference attendees on the Future of Energy Efficiency in Buildings. Blase discussed factors that will continue to drive increased energy and operational efficiency in buildings and how building owners can realize these benefits in the design phase, in applying retrofit solutions, and in operating and maintaining a building over its lifetime.

In her speech, Blase noted that Brazil is the world's eighth largest consumer of electricity and the fourth most expensive in terms of energy costs. “The missed opportunities (to reduce energy consumption) are significant,” said Blase. “As an example, according to the Brazilian Association of Energy Conservation Services, Brazil could have saved about 250 terawatt hours of energy in the last six years through energy efficiency services (in buildings). This volume represents 10 percent of total consumption registered by the Energy Research Company between 2008 and 2013.”

Trane offers the first and only chiller to receive Environmental Product Declaration

This year, visitors to the Trane booth had the opportunity to learn more about the EarthWise™ CenTraVac™. This new offering is the first and only commercial chiller to receive an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) from the Institute for Construction and Environment, a third-party EPD program operator, based in Germany, which is committed to increasing sustainability in the construction sector. For the first time, the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED green building rating system addresses material and product transparency in its newly released version, LEED version 4 (v4).  The Trane EarthWise™ CenTraVac™ centrifugal chiller with EPD certification uniquely qualifies and contributes toward a LEED v4 Building Product Disclosure and Optimization point under the materials and resources credit category.

Trane offers cutting-edge solutions

Trane showcased additional solutions at the conference that contribute to creating more productive, efficient and comfortable environments in markets that include: data centers, life sciences and biotechnology, health, education, hospitality, retail and commercial centers and industrial distribution.

These solutions include:

Trane® Stealth™ Air-Cooled Chiller: ideal for data center use and available in the 150-300 ton capacity range, this chiller delivers an industry-leading combination of part-load efficiency (up to 20 integrated part-load value) and full-load efficiency (up to 12.1 energy efficiency ratio). Multiple InvisiSound acoustical treatment options provide the flexibility to meet specific application needs and the “InvisiSound™ Ultimate” package produces the lowest published sound levels in the industry. This chiller incorporates state-of-the-art technological components to deliver superior performance and easier and faster maintenance, equating to an extremely low cost of ownership.

Trane® Optimus™ Water-Cooled Chiller with Variable Frequency: now available with the Trane® Adaptive Frequency™ drive (AFD). The AFD adjusts motor speed based on demand to reduce energy consumption and, as a result, energy costs. The Optimus chillers have cooling capacities ranging from 150 to 430 tons, making them economical cooling solutions for most buildings, including high-occupancy schools, hospitals and hotels.

Trane® Wireless Comm Interfaceavailable soon in Brazil, this solution offers adherence to ZigBee® Building Automation Systems (BAS), the global standard for interoperable products, enabling secure and reliable wireless monitoring and control over commercial building systems. This offering is the industry’s first to run BACnet® protocol on top of ZigBee BAS and to be ZigBee® Certified.  The Trane Wireless Comm Interface provides double the signal range of commonly applied wireless building automation communication systems. This means increased reliability, simplified systems design and minimized use of repeaters. Trane Wireless Comm Interface can also be factory-mounted.
