A New Philanthropic Model from a New Generation of Buffets
Another generation of Buffets is showing leadership in innovative philanthropy. The NoVo Foundation, set up by Peter and Jennifer Buffett, the son and daughter-in-law of the legendary investor and philanthropist Warren Buffett, has announced a $90 million program aimed at groups and organizations working with girls of color in the US. The commitment was preceded by a year-long listening tour with groups of girls, movement leaders, and organizers, rooted in the idea that “girls of color are experts in their own lives and have the best ideas for how to strengthen the broader movement.” In both its focus and the process by which it plans to execute its strategy, the NoVo Foundation is pioneering a new philanthropic model to be studied.
