Bloomberg Leads, Again, with Gender Equality Index
It’s good news for the CSR and sustainability world that former NYC mayor Michael Bloomberg only momentarily distracted himself with the idea of running for president. Last week, Bloomberg LP launched an index that scores financial-services companies on how well they treat women, and whether they are promoting gender equality. This announcement follows other recent Bloomberg initiatives, from a partnership with the Governance and Sustainability Institute to evaluate ESG disclosure by S&P 500 companies to a statement by Bloomberg himself that he will chair the new Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures. Other moves have added ESG data to the Bloomberg Terminal, acquired Bloomberg New Energy Finance, and helped advance the Green Bond Market. And all this after Bloomberg has agreed to chair the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board. Politics’ loss is a big win for better business.
