Brands Take Stands on O'Reilly

Over 80 national brands issued public statements as they removed their ads from Bill O’Reilly’s show when allegations of sexual harassment against the host continued to unfold. The pullout of major brand advertising clearly played a major part in Fox News’ decision to dismiss its most popular pundit. The show’s gross of over $150 million annually was going to be affected, and, along with the $85 million in payouts and exit packages already paid, with the possibility of more to come, and the potential impact on ad sales across the Fox Network as a whole, the numbers were running toward the negative. Reputation in business does have a direct value, it seems, and sometimes a high cost, too.
