Business Steps Up Leadership on Climate Change, Despite White House Withdrawal

“We are still in,” the association that promotes action to address climate change within the Paris accord, gets a major shout out from an op-ed in the Washington Post by Christiana Figueres, the former executive secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. The group, which counts 1,700 businesses as signatories along with nine states, hundreds of cities, and thousands of other civic leaders, is moving forward “regardless of what Washington does,” writes Figueres. “The White House declaration has only accelerated the determination of many American stakeholders to reach their climate goals.” It’s the latest evidence of progressive leadership taken by business despite a retrograde policy promoted by the Trump administration.
