Climate Change: Clearing the Air
The Supreme Court has upheld the EPA’s authority under the Clean Air Act to require greenhouse gas controls at power plants and other, stationary sources of pollution, including industrial facilities. The ruling follows last Sunday’s New York Times Opinion essay by Henry Paulson, former Secretary of the Treasury during the 2008 economic crisis, that announced a partnership with Michael Bloomberg, former NYC mayor, and Tom Steyer, a retired hedge fund manager, to create the Risky Business project. Their goal? To quantify the costs of inaction and influence business and investor decision-making to take steps to address climate change. Looks like “the Establishment” aims to clear the air of the fog of obstruction that has slowed progress.
