ESG Moonshot: Nike Aims for the Skies

Nike has weighed in on how to make progress toward environmental and social goals with a bold statement. “Less bad is not good enough,” said Hannah Jones, Chief Sustainability Officer and VP Innovation Accelerator. Jones was speaking at the fourth Copenhagen Fashion Summit, along with the likes of H&M and Patagonia. She explained that the company has set a “moonshot” target: “Can we double our business, while halving our impact?” Speaking with Imran Amed, who reported on the Summit for the Business of Fashion, Jones elaborated: “Sustainability is an innovation challenge that creates business model innovation and product innovation. You have to think about different technologies for how you make your products, and you have to think about different materials, right down to the molecule.” Nike’s A-Z strategy sounds like a winner.
