Generation SRI: Companies and Investment Managers, Take Note
The trending topic of socially responsible investment has gotten yet another validating vote from an authoritative financial news source. In the first of a three-part series, The Economist’s “Sustainable Investment Joins the Mainstream” article focuses on the impact of the upcoming millennial generation on SRI. There’s one pretty spectacular figure: by 2020, Millennials could control up to $24 trilllion in assets, estimates Deloitte, as the boomer generation passes on its wealth. The “other” bottom line is that Millennials want their profits to have a purpose: surveys show 86% are “interested” in sustainable investing; 61% have made at least one such investment in the past year. Investments that generate both financial and social ROI look to be winning bets in the very near future.
